beavs bar geelong

My chosen site was Beavs Bar situated on Lt. Malop St. in Geelong.
The focus of this building shows examples of timber construction. Although the actual timber truss method of support is relatively
simplistic and common, the exposed rafters are both functional and attractive.

Images above and below picture variations of the use of timber in traditional or common truss technology with the various triangulations. The chord size and web configuration would be determined here by the span, the load of the roof as well as the spacing.

As for the light steel rods connected to various members, I am unsure
whether or not they are actually structural components
or have been added for other reasons.

Gus, a good question to ask. Remember, steel is good in tension (as I have said a million times in lectures) it is used here where there are strong tensile forces.
I'm glad you took the extra step to look at the structure of this building. I hope research was not your reason for visiting Beev's Bar. R.K.

Having only ever being to Beev's of a night time I never realised its intricate detailing.
