Major Assignment

Research for my chosen architect. Norman Foster's Sainsbury Centre (pictured above) was the main focus for the design and for the structure.

The steel tubed truss structure and towers support a wide span roof over 35 metres wide and thus this system could be adapted to and open plan space like the warehouse.

beavs bar geelong

My chosen site was Beavs Bar situated on Lt. Malop St. in Geelong.
The focus of this building shows examples of timber construction. Although the actual timber truss method of support is relatively
simplistic and common, the exposed rafters are both functional and attractive.

Images above and below picture variations of the use of timber in traditional or common truss technology with the various triangulations. The chord size and web configuration would be determined here by the span, the load of the roof as well as the spacing.

As for the light steel rods connected to various members, I am unsure
whether or not they are actually structural components
or have been added for other reasons.
